you can laugh if you want to
A little while ago I went out to pick a couple of tomatoes for dinner, and finally get some pictures of them. I was about to go back inside, when I looked over to my right and saw a giant lizard!!

He was sitting arched on the fireplace. I feared that if I went inside, he would jump down and follow me inside. And yes, touch me!! I already had opened the screen, so I carefully closed it to see his reaction. Thankfully he didn't jump inside, but he was definitely excited.

I tried to talk to him, but he didn't seem interested in letting me inside. In fact, I think he shook his head "no" when I asked if I could just go inside and promised not to touch him.

I decided it wasn't worth it, and went around to the front door, which of course was locked. And no, I didn't have my keys. I didn't have on shoes (or a bra -ssshhh). I had my camera around my neck, and two tomatoes in my hand. I knew B was on his way home, so I just sat on the cold stone steps and waited.

There was a woman outside in a nearby yard, watering her lawn. She ignored me. So did the neighbors across the street. Mostly I am grateful. How do I explain that I am afraid of lizards?!

Really though, it was about as long as my forearm, and a black pattern. It looked like a snake with legs.

Of course when B went to look for it, the lizard was gone. Now I will have nightmares about lizards getting into the house, or worse, into the bed where I am sleeping.

You already know of my fear of Capybaras and I just posted a story on Facebook from the WJS that talks about Komodo Dragons. At least you actually encounter the animal you are afraid of. I totally understand

Ewwwww! I wouldn't have wanted to go past it either, and I don't even have a particular lizard fear. It sounds big and gross and yucky. I don't think I could ever live in Hawaii with all their geckos.

I have seen other lizards in the yard, but usually they stay along the perimeter (i.e., the stone fence). They also seemed much smaller than this guy.

I must admit that I am freaking myself out, worrying that he or one of his buds will get in the house. Eeewww!!!
